Roper Scientific — provider of high-performance scientific cameras and imaging solutions for research, industrial, and OEM applications.
Role
Contract Art Director — brought in to reimagine the look and feel of the Acton Research product line, direct product photography, and then extend a new visual system across collateral, campaigns, and partner marketing programs for Roper Scientific.
Challenge
Roper Scientific needed to elevate the visual presentation of its scientific cameras and unify how the brand showed up across product lines and channels. The immediate need was to:
- Refresh the Acton Research line with a more modern, cohesive visual identity.
- Create high-quality product photography for use across print and digital.
- Support the roll-out of a new Roper Scientific logo and later, a new MegaPlus camera line.
- Develop a turnkey partner marketing program that would motivate business partners to actively promote Roper Scientific products.
All of this had to resonate with a technically sophisticated audience while still feeling clear and approachable.
Approach
Acton Research: New Look & Product Photography
Hired initially to upgrade the Acton Research brand presentation, I:
- Directed a full product photo shoot for the Acton Research line of scientific cameras.
- Managed art direction on-set and prepared final photo files for use across print and digital materials.
- Designed a new set of brochures for Acton Research, introducing a cleaner, more consistent visual language that aligned with the cameras’ technical sophistication.
Building the Roper Scientific Brand System
After the success of the Acton Research work, my role expanded to broader brand support:
- Collaborated with a copywriter to develop direct mail campaigns, advertisements, trade show signage, and annual meeting presentations.
- Created a logo usage manual for Roper Scientific’s new logo, defining clear standards for typography, color, placement, and co-branding to keep all materials aligned.
MegaPlus Line: Product Launch & Collateral
Next, I was tasked with helping launch Roper Scientific’s new MegaPlus camera line:
- Developed the MegaPlus logo and established a visual look for the line.
- Created brochures, one-sheets, data sheets, and note sheets that balanced technical detail with visual clarity.
- Ensured the MegaPlus materials felt distinct yet still part of the larger Roper Scientific brand family.
Turnkey Partner Marketing Program
To deepen engagement with business partners and channel sellers, I designed a full turnkey marketing program:
- Branded Package: Created a custom-branded mailer sent to potential partner participants.
- Incentive Pamphlet: Designed a pamphlet explaining the incentive structure for selling Roper Scientific products within a defined time frame.
- Lead-Generating Lottery Ticket: Developed a scratch-off lottery ticket where every ticket was a winner ($5–$100). Salespeople were required to fill out their contact information and mail it back to claim their prize—turning the incentive into a built-in lead generator.
- Personalized CD-ROM: Produced a personalized CD-ROM for each company, containing a customized web-style experience outlining the turnkey program, technical information, and digital versions of sell sheets and brochures for Roper Scientific’s camera lines.
This program made it easy for partners to understand, sell, and promote Roper Scientific products using ready-made tools.
Outcome
Demonstrated the value of integrated art direction—connecting product photography, design systems, copy collaboration, and partner marketing into one unified story.
Established a modern, cohesive visual identity for the Acton Research and MegaPlus product lines.
Elevated the quality of product photography and collateral, improving how Roper Scientific’s cameras were presented to a technical audience.
Created a logo usage system that helped maintain brand consistency across campaigns, presentations, and trade show materials.
Delivered a unique, incentive-based turnkey marketing program that strengthened relationships with business partners and encouraged them to actively promote Roper Scientific products.
